Come along and learn the traditional way of making a seaweed bag with an Eastern Maar Traditional Owner.

Giant Octopuses and Marine Debris 12 January 2020 – Warrnambool

Come have fun and learn how to create amazing works of art from marine debris collected off our beaches and repurposed materials under the guidance of local artists Aviators of Wonder.

In this workshop participants will make and build components of a giant octopus, jelly fish and underwater marine life that when combined, create a large scale interactive art installation titled The Night of the Reclaimed Octopus.

The completed work will be on display at the Botanic Gardens, 10-12th January before being transported to the Rainbow Serpent Festival in January 2020.

Living with Wildlife : Help your local wildlife survive this hot summer and get creative making a mosaic water dish for your garden.


This fun and creative, hands on, mosaic type activity is suitable for children and adults. Participants create a unique water container to take home for their garden.


With real examples, interactive displays and information about the effects of our hot summers, as well as climate change on wildlife, participants will learn, and be empowered, to make a difference.


Mosaics can be simple or complex and challenge the participant to be as creative as they wish. We utilise recycled materials wherever possible. Shells, pebbles and tiles are glued to terracotta saucers to create a take home water container.




At the end of the activity participants will;


1. understand the impact of heat stress on wildlife,


2. be inspired and empowered to make a difference to their local wildlife,

Learn more about our coastal and marine environments and how you can make a difference. Experience the coastal and marine environment without getting your feet wet. Activities are often away from the beach; we bring the coast to you. Come along and make some amazing Coast and Sea Creatures including Weedy Seadragons, Burrunun Dolphin and Australian Fur seals. Learn about their habitat and cool adaptations.
